Week 2 (Introduction and Painting Reflection)
My name is Kenadie Dawson. I am majoring in instrumental music education. My main instrument is the french horn. I do also dabble with trumpet here and there. I am in North Central’s Concert Winds and their Athletic Bands. Music has been a main part of my life for a very long time. I grew to love band and the people. So much so that I want create that fun environment for others. I have always liked teaching, and so music is the added plus. Music and band in general really helped me through a negative time in my life. It’s my goal to help kids in a positive manner through the rewarding environment of band.

Other than playing my instrument, I really enjoy nature and hiking. Being surrounded by trees is just a wonderful feeling that allows me to be free. I like to go on a lot of walks alone in forests. It’s a great way for me to distract myself from the challenges of day to day life. Being in nature also helps me reflect on myself and my life letting me make decisions to help me improve my life. I was able to go to Europe over the summer, and this picture (on the right) I took from high up on top of mountains in Germany. Overall, nature is a huge positive in my life.
I found it very interesting that all the humans in the painting are sized based off of their social class status. The maid is the smallest, the woman is average, and the man is the biggest. The man is also overshadowing the woman and the maid. This shows that the man has control over these people. This painting is showing the hierarchy in society. Everything is being controlled by the man and his presence. None of these people look happy. The fact that all the objects in the house are proportioned to the women, makes me think that this is her house. The concept that the man is transparent maybe means that he is not actually there, but his presence and ideologies are.
Hello, Kenadie! I am a fan of music as well, and used to play the flute when I was younger. I agree that being a part of a band is a fun experience and a good way to meet others. The french horn seems tough in my opinion to play so kudos to you for learning and playing it.
