Week 6 (Mahler!)
This weekend, I saw Mahler 5 at the CSO. The CSO is the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. They are one of the best orchestras in the U.S. and perform at the Symphony Center in Chicago. It is always super fun to go see the CSO because the wave of sound you hear, feel, and experience is absolutely incredible. I have seen them four times last semester and I hope to watch more this semester. What is even extra cool, is they have student tickets for fifteen dollars and it is a really good deal.
Mahler's fifth symphony is one of his best symphonies. It has wonderful brass features that blow you away, hits you with so much emotion, and the quality is wonderful. The CSO performed it magnificently. I loved every second of it. Whenever I heard a horn line, I would get very smiley and happy. What was even more spectacular, is the fact that once the symphony ended, everyone, and I mean the whole audience, rose to their feet immediately. I have been to the CSO quite a few times, but never have I ever experienced the whole hall giving them a standing ovation not even 3 seconds after the last note was heard.
Truly an amazing experience. If anyone get the opportunity to see the CSO, take it. Even if you are not very interested in classical music, the sound is just truly special. Since the student tickets are so cheap, I really encourage everyone here to try to see them. I never new about the discount until some upperclassmen told me. Once I knew, I have definitely taken advantage of it. I am so grateful for every time I have gotten to see the CSO. It is truly a wonderful experience that I will continue to do for the rest of my life.
