Week 7 (Two Concerts!)

This weekend I had two concerts I performed in. On Saturday, I had the Chords for Kids concert. This concert is geared towards kids with disabilities. NCC's Concert Winds performs a bunch of fun tunes. The concert is very relaxed. People can talk, stand, dance around, and sing along. Myself as a performer, got to play all of this fun music and tunes and also got to dance around being silly. It was such a fun concert bring able to give to the community and seeing the kids smile and enjoy themselves. 

My second concert was on Sunday with the Naperville Youth Symphony Orchestra. For this concert, the younger orchestra needed help with French Horns. So, the director had me come to all the rehearsals to help out. The reason they needed some extra support was because we were playing Star Wars! It was a lot of fun to rehearse and perform. There are so many fun horn features in the Star Wars pieces which made it extra special. The performance went great. The director was so proud of the orchestra. They did indeed out play themselves. Their level really skyrocketed and it is so cool to see that as someone who helped them grow. The audience loved it and gave us a standing ovation.

That was my first NYSO concert and it was truly amazing. I will be coming back for their next season which is really exciting. I truly love to play my instrument. It doesn't matter if its hard or easy music, just being able to play for others is so special. I hope everyone finds something they love to do, like I love performing.

I am exploring the  topic of slaughtering techniques of chickens and their humaneness. My mom loves learning about different things and doing research on them. Week 2 (Introduction and Painting Reflection)

     My name is Kenadie Dawson. I am majoring in instrumental music education. My main instrument is the french horn. I do also dabble with trumpet here and there. I am in North Central’s Concert Winds and their Athletic Bands. Music has been a main part of my life for a very long time. I grew to love band and the people. So much so that I want create that fun environment for others. I have always liked teaching, and so music is the added plus. Music and band in general really helped me through a negative time in my life. It’s my goal to help kids in a positive manner through the rewarding environment of band.         Other than playing my instrument, I really enjoy nature and hiking. Week 14 (Spring Weather!)

The weather has been amazing this past week. I walked outside and I could breathe the fresh air and not wear a coat. It is such a relief feeling like spring is coming. Spring is my favorite season and it seems like each year spring gets shorter and shorter, so I am definitely taking advantage of this weather. Another thing that has been great is the fact that people were outside hanging out and it felt like a lively campus. It has been a while since this campus has felt like that. Due to the wonderful weather, my family and I took advantage of it and spent the day together on Saturday. My mom, her partner, my grandma, and sister all picked me up and we headed to Starbucks. My mom gets a lot of gift cards from work so it is nice being able to get a treat once in a while. My sister and I split a mocha frappuccino, which was very yummy.
